ABOUT ME
Licentiate’s degree (pre-bologna) in Translation of English and French into Portuguese at the University of Évora. Freelance Translator, EFL Trainer for adults and also French Language Trainer for adults. SDL Trados Certified at ISLA (Superior Institute of Languages and Administration) – Lisbon. I also attended the bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering at ESTIG (Beja Polytechnic Institute – School of Technology and Management). Over 12 years of work experience with production modules, industrial equipments, production machinery and electromechanical components. Over 12 years of experience as a translator in several fields, namely Oil & Gas, Mechanics, Industrial Automation, Technical Manuals (home appliances, machinery, hardware, mobile devices, music, etc.), Audio Software and Musical Instruments, Financial/Economy, Legal as well as Website and Software Localisation.
I use translation memories and several glossaries to ensure consistency, quality and to make the translation process faster, much more efficient and cost-effective for the client. My preferred tool is Trados, but I’ve also worked with other CAT Tools. All the documents are analysed by one of these tools prior to the actual translation and the quotation is prepared according to the number of words/pages regarding the percentage of matches between the TM (translation memory) and the document (only if the client has already a previous TM). The client will not have to pay for repetitions. The client’s TM and glossary are his/her property, and I’ll be pleased to submit it upon request. Clients who have previously translated documents (target) and their original (source) may submit them for alignment so I can build a new exclusive TM, thereby reducing costs and ensuring consistency with previous translations (all formats are accepted). Working with this method allows me to offer competitive rates and meet the deadlines. I never missed one.
I look towards translation as a form of art that requires a great dose of humility, dedication and passion, and I’m driven by that passion. The translated text should not reflect the translator’s thoughts, but strictly the ones of the author or the ideology that a business wishes to convey. This kind of humility, essential to a good translation, comes from a deep desire to understand these thoughts, without however misinterpreting them subjectively. The artistic portion of a translation process arises out of the translator’s lyrical talents and literary skills. It’s those qualities that allow the translator to produce a fair reflection of utterances and produce a text so transparent that it doesn’t seem to have been translated, whatever the document’s nature might be.
